Messing With Your Mind is Easy – Just Ask Your Kids

I seem to live in a constant state of flux. I realise my life is a little less ‘normal’ than most folks, but I’m beginning to think it’s more to do with my mind than my reality. Of course, seeing as how my mind dictates my reality, that statement probably doesn’t make much sense.

But my kids seem able to mess my mind up on a daily basis. They know exactly which buttons to press and how to press them for maxium effect. Their aim – to hear the ‘yes’ word more often. Because let’s face it, nobody likes to be told no.

Now they have various ways of doing it. The eldest likes to send me on a guilt trip. I’m sure this is a particular method kept especially for mothers. Does it work for dads? I have no idea. Certainly never seemed to work very well on my ex, but that could just have been him. Maybe other dads feel guilt just as much as us mothers?

My youngests favourite? Laughter. Works every time. He turns on his cute, baby faced charm, and I’m a goner. He knows it and I know it. C’est la vie.

The thing is, I know they’re doing it. So how come I can’t stop them? Because where kids are concerned, there are no defences. When it comes to advertisers, politicians, or slimy eyed car salesmen however,  we should know better.

Watch them closely, chances are they’re using the exact same tricks used by your kids. And no, they won’t work as often or as well because you can put up some defences against these folks. But the same mind voodoo tricks are at play.

They all play to our emotions because they know, (just like our kids) that’s where the ‘yes‘ button is located. Doesn’t matter if what you mean to say is ‘no’, or ‘later’, or ‘maybe’, or ‘not on your nelly’. What comes out is still ‘YES’. Now, if any of you can offer some tips on how to hide it, I’d be very grateful.
